Every April 26, we celebrate World Intellectual Property Day.

On this year’s World IP Day, the theme is “IP and music: Feel the beat of IP”.

Every piece of music you enjoy has layers upon layers of intellectual property rights: literary works (e.g. lyrics), musical works (e.g. the score), sound recordings/phonograms, performing rights, etc. Definitely something to think about next time you’re singing along to your favourite track!

Today, we celebrate how intellectual property has helped make music into the worldwide bastion of culture that we all know and enjoy.
